At the age of 18 I moved to London to go to university at University College London (UCL). My first degree was from UCL, where I successfully achieved a Bachelor of Engineering (BEng) degree in Biochemical Engineering. I decided to change direction slightly and enrolled onto a Master’s programme at UCL and a year later I was awarded a Master of Science (MSc) degree in Biomaterials and Tissue Engineering. The Biomaterials MSc is geared to train students in the discipline of implant design – hips, knees and heart valves. My MSc was fascinating indeed and I was looking forward to an exciting career in this field.

I had been suffering with severe back pain for some years by this time, and I was offered no help with this problem from my GP, other than painkillers, which were starting to have only a limited effect after years of taking them. Someone suggested that I go see an osteopath and I thought that a second opinion couldn’t hurt. I wasn’t expecting much, but I went to see a student at the BSO, who run a student clinic at a reduced price. The amount of pain relief that I got from osteopathic treatment was tremendous!

So tremendous, in fact that I decided to that as fascinating as my Master’s degree was, osteopathy was going to be my new career and path in life. I took action and enrolled onto the Master of Osteopathy degree programme. As of September of 2015 I have been awarded a Master of Osteopathy (M.Ost) qualification. I have been actively practicing osteopathy ever since, including an 18 month stint working for the NHS.
